September 14 • November 24, 2018 Keynote speaker: prof. Robert Faff

The Faculty of Economic Sciences at the University of Warsaw will hold first of two stages of an Emerging Scholars Research Paper Development Workshop (ESRPDW) in Warsaw, Poland on September, 14, 2018. The ESRPDW will be held in conjunction with the 2018 International Conference on "Innovative Economy: The role of economic policy" also organized by the Warsaw University, Faculty of Economic Sciences. The objectives of the workshop are to provide emerging scholars with feedback on their research proposals and to help develop their research skills and ability to publish in highly-recognized international journals (with impact factor).

Research proposals deemed to have the most promise, will be selected to be presented during the second-stage research workshop (24th of November). Experienced, internationally recognized researchers will attend the seminar to provide comprehensive feedback and guidance to the participants. Preference will be given to doctoral students and early career researchers. However, the research workshop is open to any emerging research scholar with an economics, finance and accounting focus, holding or pursuing a terminal degree – affiliated with a reputable higher education institution and are committed to improving their research skills capacity. call_for_papers.pdf

Stages:

The first-stage research workshop will run on the second day of the Conference, Friday September 14, 2018. It will cover a lecture on the pitching research methodology provided by Prof. Robert Faff, publication process and workshops developing research skills with guidance on correspondence with reviewers.

In the second-stage research workshop, November 24, internationally recognized scholars will lead sessions designed to increase participants’ research skills , discussing/reviewing research proposals, and presenting the best practice of doctoral schools at the University Queensland (Brisbane, Australia) and at Faculty of Economic Sciences at University of Warsaw. Participants will be expected to study several assigned readings to prepare for these sessions.

Requirements:

Each proposal should include as a focal point, a fully-worked research pitch presented as 2-page/1,000 word exhibit in the format of “Pitching Research” [Faff (2017)] available from SSRN:

Proposal assessment: As a broad guide, we will look for a coherent flow of ideas, defined around 5 dimensions:
(a) Clarity: Does the pitch have clarity?
(b) Meaningfulness: Is the pitch meaningful? (e.g. does it involve appropriate technical content?)
(c) Effort: Does the pitch reflect a bone fide effort?
(d) Connectivity: Is the pitch well connected?
(e) Conversation: Does the pitch start a conversation? (to an academic expert in the field).

Each proposal should provide meaningful and carefully chosen elaboration of key items mentioned in the research pitch exhibit.

Proposals should be limited to a maximum 10 pages (inclusive of pitch), with standard 2.5cm margins, 12-point font and 1&1/2 line spacing.
